Some Signs your boiler needs replacing

If your boiler is failing to provide hot water there are a few potential culprits:

– Your water level has fallen too low.

– There could be a fault with your thermostat.

– One of the motorised valves may have failed.

– An airlock or diaphragm could be broken.

Often the first sign of a failing boiler is strange or loud noises. This common problem is called “kettling” and is usually caused by corrosion, debris or limescale sticking onto inside surfaces of the boiler’s heat exchanger. This issue needs a professional to rectify it, if the damage is not too significant then a heating engineer should be able to fix the fault. Depending on how old your boiler is, getting a boiler replacement may be more cost effective in the long-run.

Unpleasant smells coming from your boiler can mean an emergency. A foul sulphuric smell (similar to rotten egg), can point to a gas leak within in your home. Gas leaks from your boiler can be highly dangerous, and present a big fire risk along with the release of carbon monoxide. Turn off your gas supply straight away if you smell gas, and call a plumber ASAP.

In addition, the smell of burning metal or plastic indicates your boiler might be overheating, this can cause damage to your boiler and energy wastage.

A faulty boiler can be highly dangerous. Having it serviced annually safeguards your home against gas leaks and potential fires or explosions, along with carbon monoxide. All homes should have an annual boiler service, along with a carbon monoxide alarm.

Our Gas Safe registered engineers can provide affordable boiler servicing, and a plan can be arranged at the same time as we install your new boiler. Servicing will also improve the lifespan of your boiler and reduce the need for a future replacement.
